NICKELBACK (L-R): Mike Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Daniel Adair, Chad Kroeger

2026 has been ABSOLUTELY mental for music, especially over the summer. Now sure, that's a sentiment we end up repeating every year...but it really has been exceptional! We've had some incredible tracks from bands old and new, each showcasing why they're so established in their respective genres. For the older bands, its a testament to their legacies that we still get to enjoy their craft as they continue to push forward in an ever growing market. And for me, one band has truly made my year with the recent announcement that their eleventh studio album is on the way.

Releasing the news are those Canadian superstars Nickelback, who have unveiled that their new album 'Everything Under The Sun' - the follow up to 2022's 'Get Rollin' - will be made available on 30th October. What's even better is that along with previously released track 'Bones For The Crows', we got the next taste of what the band have been working on with new single 'Rattle The Cage'.

Now for me, I've always loved that Nickelback can jump between powerful melodic ballads and hard hitting, balls-to-the-wall anthems...and 'Rattle The Cage' slides itself nicely into the latter category. Punchy, heavy, explosive...Nickelback unleash a track that feels like a blend of their 'Here & Now' and 'Feed The Machine' eras whilst still keeping it fresh and modern. The overall production highlights that when Nickelback take the safety off, they can truly produce tracks that are gritty and full of brass. With heavy bass riffs being accompanied by thunderous drums, the dual guitars and rock-driven vocals add that final element to the formula that the quartet have mastered over their 31 year career. Whilst the style of music and the formula used to write it shows that the band are comfortable in their ways, it also shows that they are prepared to come out the gate with full force to keep themselves fresh and ready for the ever-changing dynamics many musicians find within the scene.

Of course, we can't ignore the special addition that appears in the track. Its no secret that over the years, Nickelback haven't shied away from featuring or appearing with artists in and out of the genre on their music - the most recent example being Chad Kroeger's appearance on Don Bronco's single 'Nightmare Tripping'. This time, they bring a familiar face into the track, utilising the highly-respected talent of fellow multi-genre guitarist John5. In the brief moments that we hear John5, he demonstrates his iconic sound by adding small licks and a skilful solo into the mix - further boosting the new era of Nickelback to exciting levels.

I won't hide the fact that out of the vast number of bands out there, Nickelback is the top of my list and has been for many, many years. 2026 was for me already exciting enough as we received new music from the likes of Evanescence, KoRn and Breaking Benjamin - to receive new Nickelback as well just exemplifies my earlier fact that we are truly being spoilt as we continue through the year. The only downside is that, unless Nickelback decide to drop another single between now and October, there is going to be a mighty big itch that will need a mighty fine scratch as we wait patiently for what's to come.

Nickelback's eleventh studio album 'Everything Under The Sun' will be released on 30th October 2026 through Virgin Music Group
