Time to brush off that passport and pack my suitcase, as this review once again sees me travelling abroad to check out some of the international talent hidden away. Now whilst the head honcho of GET HEAVY and I argue over what is classed as valid expenses (that gold plated 2-in-1 foot massage and chocolate fountain totally counts and I'm sticking to that!) for this trip, maybe I should inform you who exactly we're focusing on today (...you know, just in case you may have skipped the name in the review title...)

Today we visit South Africa, a scene that in my personal opinion rivals the scene we have over here in the UK. South Africa has a thriving grassroots scene full to the brim of bands that bring thunder, chaos and just all around headbanging goodness to light. One band in particular that highlights the traits of their local scene are heavy hitters DIVERTED DISORDERwho make a true return to form with their latest single 'Dogmatic'.

Whilst DIVERTED DISORDER are known to bring heavy and chaotic elements to their music, 'Dogmatic' stands out in its own unique way by utilising what feels to be a more operatic and atmospheric sound. The unapologetic energy we've come to know and love is still there, with punchy riffs and unrelenting aggression still flowing through the band's instruments and vocals, but adding this extra level of an operatic variety shows how the band is willing to step into other elements to elevate their sound. The chorus in particular is eerie and haunting, using raw emotion and intensity to create a steady build back into the verses that dive straight back into the fray.

One thing I love about this track is the underlaying sense of something dangerous being built up - something that is persistent in both the lyrical content and accompanying music video. The song focuses on the destructive consequences of punishing individuality and what happens when persistent bullying and harassment is taken too far. This is portrayed in the music video where we see the hero (Dylan) constantly facing criticism and abuse throughout the track. Nearer the end, we see Dylan start to take action into his own hands...but just how far will he be willing to go, and are his actions in the pursuit of justice or simple revenge? This is left to the audience decide as the track comes to an end, the last few notes still ringing in our ears.

A provocative track that will get you thinking about the themes presented whilst diving into a taste of the South African scene, its no surprise to see that DIVERTED DISORDER are a popular favourite within their local ranks when they are producing incredibly energy both in the studio and live on stage. Once again, the band have delivered a brutal track that is full of mastery and brutality in its own way and style.
