When writing these reviews, we’re often thrown something our way that mixes things up a bit. Whether it’s a different take on the genre or a collaboration that hits differently, the music scene never fails to deliver. Within Get Heavy, we like to mix things up and sample new things. After all, it demonstrates the broader range within the scene that we all know and love.

With this review, I find myself dabbling in an interesting mix of D’n’B and Metal, courtesy of two rising acts who are known for their ability to fuse genres into unique takes – Dreadnought and Rupcha Farms. Focusing on their joint theme of genre fusion, they present a new creation that highlights both their strong points as musicians – ‘King of Kings’.

Now upon first listen, you initially think this is a standard D’n’B style mix. Electronic mixes, heavy bass lines, synthesisers…its all there. But if that’s not your usual cup of tea, don’t let that put you off. Giving this track a chance, you’re soon met with Dreadnought and Rupcha Farms’ iconic addition of metal vibes. Embracing a Linkin Park vibe, we’re met with a fiery vocal onslaught that is challenged only by the beat that brings its own energy and fire, both features highlighting how both acts have built their reputations amongst many within the scene.

It's something unique within the genre. What’s commendable here is that this is a track that doesn’t rely on technical guitar riffs or intricate melodies to grab your attention. This is a track that stands on its own by taking the gamble on being something different and unexpected within the Metal genre. Whilst we are seeing more genre fusion in recent years, ‘King of Kings’ once again highlights the fire and passion two artists bring together to make it stand out amongst the masses.

Usually, this type of song wouldn’t be my cup of tea (purely because I’ve rarely dabbled into the D’n’B vibes over the years) but I’m glad to take a chance and give it a spin. As I’ve repeated a few times, it’s the uniqueness that has made it stand out amongst some of the other tracks I’ve listened to and makes me admire the fact that we have groups like Dreadnought and Rupcha Farms in the scene
