Through All This Suffering: Dan French, Rob Godding

What does a new year mean for the music scene? It means new music of course! (yeah ok, not the greatest revelation in the world but hey, I’m tired so that’s the best you’re gonna get for now). Now when we say new music, we don’t just mean from the heavyweights and familiar faces we’ve been following for a while, but also new music from new bands beginning their journey onto the scene. Through a nice little Instagram message, I was introduced to new band Through All This Suffering – the latest contender in the metal scene that aim to bring their own take on the metal genre with their debut ‘Oblivion’.

A project that was originally conceived by members Dan and Rob during the Dark Ages (no no, not the time between the 5th and 10th centuries. I mean the COVID pandemic…), Through All This Suffering finally became a reality at the start of 2026. Their mission? To blend technical with melodic so they bring convey their own stories through music. Think Tesseract meets Architects and you’re on the right lines for how they sound.

‘Oblivion’ kicks this mission off in that exact manner, sliding straight in with a technical guitar riff full Djent-y goodness. Matched by a thunderous drum line and an equally crunchy rhythm guitar/bass line, the music builds up nicely as it prepares us for the harsh vocals that provide that extra level of oomph to an already explosive track. Where does the melodic side come in? Why the chorus of course. Whilst the vocals are still harsh, they are slightly ‘lighter’ than what we’re meant with in the verse. The instruments also change pace slightly to convey the more melodic side of the band, all before building back into the heavier side. What makes this balance of melodic and technical better is the flawless switch between the two, performed almost instantaneously to ensure the flow and energy of the track doesn’t falter at any time.

For a debut track, Through All This Suffering has shown that they mean business and aim to make themselves known as serious contenders within the UK Metal Scene. Its one that will appeal to those that love a blend of genres tucked into one little package, whilst also scratching the itch for fans that want something new in 2026. If Through All This Suffering can continue with this pace, the mission they have set themselves will be one they can accomplish in no time at all.

'Oblivion' will be available on 01.02.2026
