Now bear with me as I go on with the following analogy...I'll make it work...
Have you ever read the classic Dr Seuss story 'The Cat In The Hat'? You know, a stranger arrives out of nowhere promising fun and adventure, but in the process causes chaos and mayhem...all before finishing up by fixing the damage and leaving a smile on everyone's face as valuable lessons have been learnt? Well take that logic, and twist it slightly that its not a strange extremely tall cat...but the 'fun uncle' (or 'funcle') of Metal making a grand return and doing the same with his new track.
Yes folks, I am indeed talking about that lovable musician known as Neo Cryptid, who slid on into my DMs earlier this week with the tease of a brand new track coming our way later this month. Naturally, I couldn't wait to get my hands (well...ears) on it, and let me tell you - you're in for a treat with Neo Cryptid's next track 'Breathe'.
Those that know Neo Cryptid know he doesn't do anything half-arsed. Everything he produces is full of larger-than-life energy and volume, and 'Breathe' is no exception to this. This is a track that not only has depth and power in its musical content, but matching depth and power in its lyrical content as well. Without giving too much away ahead of the release, this is a track that serves as a reminder more than anything - when it feels like the world is weighing down on you and you begin self doubting, just breathe. That one simple act can help us regain control of the chaos taking place around us. With that in mind, this content truly makes the track larger than it truly is.
What I love about this track is the approach used by Neo Cryptid in terms of mixing and mastering. Compared to his previous tracks, there was a clear but subtle difference in how the mastering was handled - this felt like the track was done closer to home, which adds that extra layer of personal flair to an already personal and immense track. And just when you think to yourself 'gee, I wonder how Neo Cryptid could make this track even bigger...', he throws another fun addition into the mix...A KEYTAR SOLO!. Provided by the extremely talented Augustin Bousfield, the keytar solo just adds that extra element of fun into a serious and meaningful track, showcasing Neo Cryptid's ability to find a perfect balance without taking away from the emotional core of the message he's portraying.
Overall - we simply have another solid entry into the world of Neo Cryptid and his music. 'Breathe' masterfully blends chaos, fun and emotion into a neat little bundle whilst also demonstrating that there is no hesitation in trying something new. And most of all - 'Breathe' is a simple reminder that during the chaos, we just simply need to take a moment to come back down to Earth and retake control.
