You know the saying ‘there’s no rest for the wicked?’ It’s a saying that can be applied to musicians throughout the scene. One minute you’re on stage blasting out song after song, the next you’re in the studio recording the next single or album, and the minute after that you’re in the band room writing the next chuggy riff or melodic ballad. You never truly rest when it comes to being in a band as the gears are constantly turning.

And that’s a logic that heavy metal force The Last Bastion have embraced over 2025. Releasing their debut album ‘Who We Are’ and taking it out on the road so the fans could revel in its energy live was just one part of the year for the trio, and they have no intention on calming down as shown with their resilience in latest single ‘Legion of the Damned’.

Whilst the track may start off with a slower groove-metal style intro, that fatal ‘ding’ from the drums is a sign sh*t is about to get crazy. The slow build up prepares the fans for the brutality of the rest of the song. That ‘ding’ comes in and you know that The Last Bastion want fans to start headbanging and mosh-pitting. Utilising elements of Thrash and good ol’ fashioned Heavy Metal, this is a track that demonstrates the raw intensity and unity that the band use both on and off stage within their music.

Overall, ‘Legion of the Damned’ feels like an amalgamation of earlier Trivium, Megadeth and Anthrax. The drums are powerful and thunderous, commanding the rhythm section with a ferocious presence. This is met with dual guitars that bounce between simple riffs and fiery licks throughout, with a solo that feels like it was written by the thrash legends of old. The final piece of the puzzle are the gravelly vocals that channel the vibes of the traditional Heavy Metal scene. They’re gruff, they’re intense and they help add that finishing touch that is needed to make this track a true headbanger in its own right.

The Last Bastion may have only been around for a couple of years, but ‘Legion of the Damned’ demonstrates the ability of a band who have been around for generations. Whilst the formula they use musically has been done before, its still refreshing to hear amongst the modern genres that dominate the Metal scene and shows just how tight the band are as a unit. If this is a sign of what The Last Bastion have planned for 2026, you know its going to be a heavy year for the group.
