Bloodstock Open Air will return to Catton Park, Derbyshire, from 5–8 August 2027, bringing another huge weekend of heavy music, camping and festival entertainment to the heart of the UK.
The first wave of artists has already been revealed, with Mercyful Fate, Electric Callboy and Motionless In White confirmed as the three main-stage headliners. Each act promises something different, creating a varied programme that stretches from classic heavy metal to modern metalcore and electronic-infused party metal.
Mercyful Fate will headline on Friday, returning to Bloodstock with their unmistakable theatrical style and dark, influential sound. Saturday will see German favourites Electric Callboy deliver their first Bloodstock headline performance, combining crushing riffs, electronic music and high-energy entertainment.
Motionless In White will close the festival on Sunday with their first European festival headline appearance. Their Bloodstock performance will also be the band’s only UK show of 2027, making it an especially important date for British fans.
The Sophie Lancaster Stage will offer an equally powerful programme. Madball, Gaerea, Kanonenfieber and Dethklok have been announced as its headliners, bringing hardcore, black metal, extreme metal and animated brutality to the festival’s second stage.
Other announced acts include Children of Bodom, Corrosion of Conformity, Acid Bath and Green Lung, with many more names expected to be revealed as the festival approaches.
Demand has already been exceptionally strong, with the early-bird ticket allocation reportedly selling out in record time. This enthusiastic response demonstrates the loyalty of the Bloodstock community and the festival’s growing position within the international metal scene.
However, having spoken with several individuals at this year’s event, it is clear that the announcement has not received universal approval. Some members of metal’s old guard expressed disappointment at what they consider a lack of traditional British heavy metal in the first wave of artists. While Bloodstock has always welcomed international performers and different branches of heavy music, these fans believe home-grown British metal should feature more prominently across the weekend.
The debate highlights the challenge faced by a modern metal festival: respecting the genre’s history while continuing to evolve and attract a new generation of fans. The announced line-up may lean towards a broader and more contemporary interpretation of heavy music, but further additions could provide the traditional British presence some long-standing supporters are hoping to see.
Bloodstock has built its reputation on more than its headline performances. The independent festival is known for its welcoming community, lively campsites, late-night entertainment and support for grassroots music through the Metal 2 the Masses programme and New Blood Stage.
Following the success of Bloodstock’s 25th-anniversary celebration in 2026, anticipation is already building for another memorable gathering at Catton Park. Strong ticket demand suggests Bloodstock 2027 will be a commercial success, even as discussion surrounding the musical direction of the festival continues.
