Whilst I absolutely love exploring the different corners of the UK’s underground scene, it’s sooooo nice to ‘stay at home’ and be able to review a band that’s right on my doorstep. After all, you can’t beat putting up in your feet in your favourite bunny slippers and whacking on some tunes…but I haven’t got bunny slippers, so I guess its just the tunes on this occasion…

Anyway! Before I ramble on into further nonsense, the review. We’re visiting Spaldonian quintet Keep This Up, who released a track that’s both heavy in sound and message – ‘Remedy (For The End)’

When compared to some of their earlier releases, the boys have stepped it up big time with this track. They come in heavy and hard, matching the tone of a song that reflects on the current state of affairs that we find ourselves in. This heavier tone tells you the band mean business and are prepared to bury the message deep into your brain. The message is simple – if the path we’re on continues, we will face the end of things as we know it…and as the ash and dust falls, what will we face as we approach the end?

As before, the musical side of the track balances this heavy tone as well. The track maintains the group’s iconic ‘emo/alternative’ vibe that they’ve built up but hits you with elements of Hard Rock and Post-Hardcore as well. Think early ‘A Day To Remember’ and ‘AFI’ and that’s along the sound you’ll have ringing in your ears. The blend of clean and harsh vocals matches the chaotic energy pushed by the instruments. The riffs reflect the harsh message, stabbing you with angry energy from start to finish.

Keep This Up have never been shy on using their platform to raise their voices on personal matters, and ‘Remedy (For The End)’ is another torch the band have lit to raise awareness of what they stand for. We are in some bizarre and worrying times, often left in the dark about what can happen if we leave things for too long. Keep This Up use this song in particular to make us think – what is the remedy we need, and just how will we find it as the ashes begin to fall around us
