Time to mix things up a bit (no pun intended here when if you know the artist…) with this next review which sees me visiting an artist that dabbles in blending genres to produce big sounds. We are of course, taking about Metathetic’s roster masked sweetie-pie that is Dreadnought who have released their blended masterpiece ‘Dead and Buried’
One thing I love about music is you never really know what you’re going to get when you hit play on these kinds of things. Looking at
Dreadnought, you expect heavy when you see the delightful Slipknot-esque mask. And whilst you certainly get heavy, you also get some lyric bending Hip-Hop and EDM thrown in for three. Multiple genres for the price of one track? What a gem!
Throwing you Hollywood Undead and Limp Bizkit vibes, ’Dead and Buried’ was an interesting diversion from my usual metalcore tuneage. This track was energetic. It was catchy. There was just a ‘metal party’ vibe throw out the track that makes you want to headbang whilst do the occasional bit of chaotic spinning. Hip-Hop and EDM are genres I don’t really dabble in myself, but the way Dreadnought mixes these styles together flawlessly shows that sometimes metal doesn’t have be to heavy guitars and death inducing gutturals. Now of course, I’m not saying that what Dreadnought has done has never been done before, but as before it was a refreshing addition to my playlist and also serves as a reminder that the Metal scene is a lot more diverse than you realise.
Dreadnought shows he isn’t afraid to stick to just one style or expectation of the genre, rather he’s eager to try different things to make his sound stand out in an ever growing scene. The question is, just what craziness can we expect from his blending skills next? I suppose the best way to find out is keep an eye on him and keep your fingers crossed you hear a sample of The Wiggles mixed in…(not dropping any hints by the way…or am I?)
