Iron Altar: A Progressive, Sludge and Death Infused Metal Band from Edinburgh, Scotland......

By Stephen Cummings (BeardBo & GH/UK)

Formed in 2016, this talented band has toured across the UK and Ireland while perfecting their unique sound. On September 29th they released their new album titled Promethean via Trepanation Recordings, and it is a chugg fest of riffs and heavy beats that will satisfy any metalhead's hunger for aggression and groove.

Promethean features nine tracks that showcase Iron Altar's ability to merge multiple metal genres into a cohesive and dynamic sound. The opening track, "The End," sets the tone with its sludgy riffs and growling vocals. The first single "Megalith" released earlier this year follows with a more progressive approach, featuring intricate guitar work and a haunting atmosphere.

"Mortality" and "Hunted" are other standout pieces that blend frenetic drumming with head-nodding grooves. "Path to Empyrean" stands out for its slower pace and eerie atmosphere. The band's ability to create this mood is highlighted by the crushing guitar tones midway through, which carry the song towards its conclusion. Personally, this is my favorite track on the album, as I am a fan of slow, chuggy riffs.

Overall

One of Edinburgh's up-and-coming metal bands has released a impressive album that metal enthusiasts should definitely check out. Promethean puts the band's skill and distinct style, which incorporates various metal sub-genres, on full display. With its thundering riffs and groovy hooks, this album is sure to satisfy the metal community.

Iron Altar, accompanied by Souls of Jack Ketch & Scars Run Deep, is set to perform live on October 12th at Little Buildings in Newcastle. This is an event not to be missed, so mark your calendars!
