Part 1 (Longings) - Released 14th of July 2023
The latest EP offers a powerful and unrelenting taste of their capabilities. Cast in Tephra holds nothing back from the opening moments, as demonstrated by the haunting ambience and dark, brooding atmosphere of their intro track “ Grasping at Echoes “
Lyrically, the EP touches on themes of mental health and personal struggles, with the band sharing their raw emotions and experiences. Vocalist Ryan Thirtle delivers each line with such intensity, making the EP all the more impactful.
The first full track, following the intro “ Dreams That Decay (The Anguish) “, is an absolute monster. The heavy riffs, guttural vocals and pounding drums combine to create a brutal and beautiful track. The intricate guitar work and atmospheric interludes only add to the depth and complexity of the song.
" Deity (The Corruption) " continues the onslaught, with its pummeling drums and crushing breakdowns. The song is a testament to the band's ability to blend technicality with sheer aggression and brutality. The unrelenting intensity of this track is nothing short of awe-inspiring.
The final track, " Time Immemorial (The Acceptance)" wastes no time with a thunderous pop from the drums and guitars along with this immense roar from the vocalist Ryan Thirtle. As the song progresses, the tempo shifts and changes, weaving together a tapestry of musical complexities that showcase the band's talent and skill. The intensity builds and ebbs, rising to a fever pitch before crashing down in a quiet decrescendo.
Overall, Cast in Tephra's EP Part 1 Longings is an incredible demonstration of what this band is capable of. Each track is a masterclass in technicality, brutality and atmosphere, and the EP as a whole is a stunning achievement.
